Washington County Fair

After getting back from camping at Timothy Lake, Annie volunteered to work at the Washington County Fair. Haley invited friend Robin and we all headed over. This is a picture of three bumblebees on a flower in the garden section (I always get new ideas by visiting there). The girls enjoyed walking around, got phony tatoos (why?!), and most enjoyed the Avon booth where they got to try new kinds of makeup.

At 5 pm, Annie finished and we went to the hypnotist display. It was fun to watch, but is it for real? Don't know, I certainly wouldn't want to be a participant. Robin tried out, but after being up on the stage she was sent back to sit down with us. All in all, a good time!

Washington County Fair Happenings!

Haley's Friend, Robin (far right on stage), tries to be hypnotized. Didn't happen. She had to rejoin us mere mortals out in the audience.

...and more flowers at the fair.

Purple Fountain Grass, very nice looking ornamental grass, found at the Washington County Fair.

Also at the Washington County fair were the "dockdogs", dogs that would take flying leaps into a pool... yes, it was fun to watch (and there were little grandstand seats with shade so I hung out there a lot...it was hot!)

Bitter Melon Beauty!

An interesting little plant, this is what Annie calls "bitter melon". I saw some of the vegetables at the Saturday Market in Hillsboro and they call them bitter cucumbers. Either way, I really like how these plants grow. They love to climb. You can see their curly-kew shoots in this picture. Wish we would have planted earlier though, still no vegetables!

Enjoying Hillsboro Airshow

Huge crowds enjoy this annual event!

Here are Annie and Haley at the Hillsboro, Oregon 18th annual Airshow. Annie volunteered to work in one of her employer's booths. She administered first aid while Haley and I got to wander about the show. It was really hot there but a lot of fun!

Marionberry Heaven!

We act quickly to stock up on the most delicious marionberries from the folks. These are frozen to be used for jams and cobblers this winter!

Zucchini Heaven!

From the folk's farm, we have an abundance of delicious zucchini. They make delicious quiche! Here's a quick little recipe you will love:
Zucchini Quiche
-3 cups shredded zucchini
-1/2 cup grated cheese
-1 cup Bisquick (we use flour, just as good!)
-1/2 cup chopped onion
-1/2 cup oil
-4 beaten eggs
-1/2 tsp. seasoned salt (we just sprinkle a bit of salt on the grated zuke while the other ingredients are being prepared. Then we squeeze excess water the salt has pulled out of the lump of grated zucchini).

Preheat oven to 350. Mix all ingredients. Bake in greased dish 30-40 minutes until golden brown. Cut into squares. (I also admit to adding a bit more grated cheese and Annie loves to chop ham and put in too!)

The result? Plenty of quiche!
