Honor Student

Nestled in the family room, log stove blazing and hot water bottle cradled, Haley sets aside her glamorous lifestyle to finish studies before going back to school this next week.

"Avoiding the Towel"

I read somewhere that throughout life dogs maintain an emotional level of a two year old human. This picture is a good example: after taking a nice walk with Parker in the snow we returned to find Annie waiting with a towel to dry Parker's wet feet. Parker, with two year old charm, declares he would rather play with Mr. Monkey.

"Fallen Bamboo"

Woke up this morning to find our potted bamboo plants overturned. I am fascinated to think as an act of self-preservation, the bamboo would fall over before breaking under the weight of the snow.

Snow Portrait!

First snow this winter. I grab everyone and we head outside. It's late, going on 8pm because Annie and I just got off work. Haley and Parker had just picked us up. It was so beautiful outside we just had to get a picture!

House Lights at Night in Snow

Today we were surprised by snow! Just had to get out and take some pictures.

"Childhood Past" Winter seems an appropriate time for looking back on the childhood joys we have left behind.

Snowmen Love Toilets!

Happy holidays from our new toilet! I joined the crowd today looking for bargains...on a new toilet. And here it is! The ceramic reservoir cracked and flooded the floor last night. (Thanks go out to my dad and youtube for their generous help!)

Christmas Party at Loni and John’s

"Christmas Cats"

"Christmas Cats" Out for our morning walk, Parker and I chance upon two denizens of Forest Grove. Huddling together against the cold morning elements these cats provide a stark contrast to the warmth projected during our yearly Christmas season.

Annie Begins Cooking for Christmas

Annie Freezes Haley's Shoes

Filipino ingenuity gone awry... Taking advantage of her husband's handyman inadequacies, Annie put a large tub under a clogged downspout. She then added our daughter's gunked-up xcountry shoes. Result? In the spring when National Geographic comes looking for a buried wooly mammoth guess what they will find?

It's Official, I am 57Years Old

This just in! My official 57th birthday picture! Daughter Haley gave me a card that starts "A long, LONG, time ago..." (when opened plays Star Wars theme. Cute!) and a huge jar of cashews (yum!). Wife Annie gave me some BearPaw slippers, making me promise to keep them locked up in the closet (Parker loves chewing slippers. Little does Annie know he only does it to make it easy for her to think of the same gift for each occasion in my life.) Oh, and Haley, on her own (bless her heart), went to Safeway and bought me a carrot cake! (and yes she bought it day old to save $2! Good girl!!)

Haley Cross Country Meet at Western Oregon University

Whether in the “massage” line, or being artsy-smartsy with her fellow runners, Haley has a way of always enjoying herself!

Haley and Robin First Day Junior Year High School_091009 001

This is a big year for Haley.  She has turned 16, has her driver’s license, has a car to drive, and today she began by driving herself and friend Robin Marquardt to their first day as Juniors at Forest Grove High School!

Haley is currently running Cross Country and is in several honors programs.  Quite the busy lady!

Haley in Black and White

Haley messing around with the new Panasonic camera.

No More Phone Company! Can you say, "ooma"?

Today it became official. Our telephone number no longer belongs to Verizon. It belongs to ooma, a company that allows us to make phone calls using our internet connection. Very scary feeling after a lifetime of always being with a phone company!

New site does 12 Second Videos!

12seconds.tv is a cool site that ties in with Twitter and Facebook. It allows you to share a 12 second video, whether from your desk cam, or a video you put together. Here's an example of what is happening today at our place:

Haley Goes on X-Country Retreat to Beach

Being without a still camera (and Haley not using the Vado, "I was in the moment") I can only place a marker here for this event. She left Thursday morning and came back Saturday evening. She said she had a great time, did her running well (their house was about three miles from the beach so they got plenty of miles in going back and forth), and made new friends.

I Enter a Contest

Eric (JoeHandsome99) got me started on Video Editing, I just got Magix video editing software so I am not officially competing. And I should probably just be using it right now, but I wanted to show how easy and fun video editing can be... even without fancy software! This little video was done for free using "Paint" (yeah that clunky free Microsoft software), and then created at http://animoto.com

Haley Got Her License to Drive Today!

Daughter Haley Driving Alone After Getting License on 12seconds.tv
In life there are a few notable mileposts. I think getting a driver's license is one of the better ones. Haley's appointment was for 10:20 am at the Hillsboro DMV (department of motor vehicles). There were not a lot of people there, Haley was totally composed the entire time. After her driving test she came in and tried to sound disappointed before exclaiming she passed (nice try, Drama Queen). Annie and I then took her to Izzy's for a lunch buffet while Parker, our dog, waited in the car.

After lunch, Haley dropped Annie and I at our car near the DMV, then drove off with Parker. I think I had a taste of the "empty nest" syndrome, seeing her drive off by herself.

Testing Audio

Okay, okay, I'm interested every now and then to include audio.
Here are the steps:
1.) Record Audio using free software Audacity. Save as MP3 file.
2.) Get account and upload to edublogs.tv
3.) Copy and Paste the "Embed Code" available after uploading(change autostart=yes, to autostart=no)
4.) Enjoy!

OR...

And this way is even easier:
1.) Get a Google Voice Telephone Number.
2.) Call and leave yourself a Voice Mail Message.
3.) Find and copy the "Embed" code on your Voice Mail Page in Google Voice.
4.) Paste the code in your blog.
5.) Cool!

If You are Here, You can Call Me!

This is very cool. Thanks to Google we are able to make and receive calls at our own special phone number which is a number in the North Plains, Oregon area (none available in Forest Grove). Even though that in itself is nice, what I am able to do is have you go directly into my voicemail without ringing my cell phone. You think, "so what?, that seems fairly simple". Well, it gets better! Your voicemail to me is transcribed into text and immediately sent as a text message to my cell phone.

I have a pay as you go cell phone plan with Virgin Mobile, paying a dime or something like that for a text message, much less than what it would cost to speak live. So if you are anywhere in the USA and have reached this blog entry, you can say hi in a text message to me, just click the link!!!

C'mon, you gotta admit that is COOL! Click HERE if you want to see my little screencast about this.

(don't be afraid, you can click it and see how it works without risking anything.)
